Benefits of Common Spices

Let’s explore the benefits of common spices used in cooking. All of these are high in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, and each one has its unique spectrum of healing qualities. 

This is not intended to provide medical information because using herbs in cooking is different from using herbs therapeutically. I am presenting these benefits so that you are aware as you consume these in your cooking that you are fighting off dis-ease. All of us can benefit from using more of these herbs in our cooking!

Oregano: Anti-bacterial and anti-viral. The compound carvacrol found in Oregano has been shown in studies to suppress the growth and spread of colon cancer cells.

Sweet Paprika: Supports inner and outer skin health, can prevent hair loss and the graying of hair, decreases the risk of heart attack, and supports digestion.

Cinnamon: Balances blood sugar, reduces inflammation, supports cardio-health, and may reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Thyme: Boosts mood, supports kidney health, anti-bacterial properties, and good for respiratory health.

Black Pepper Boosts nutrient absorption, supports healthy blood sugar levels, and may lower cholesterol.

Cumin: Helpful for many digestive imbalances, especially bloating, can aid in weight loss, helps to prevent food-borne illness, and lowers blood sugar.

 

Coriander: Protects the brain, supports good digestion, antimicrobial, and good for hot, rashy, skin conditions. 

 

Fennel seeds: Helps regulate blood pressure, reduces water rendition, purifies the blood, improves eyesight, can help with acne, reduces bloating, and gas, and even can relieve menstrual cramps when taken consistently a week before menstruation.

 

Cardamom: Anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, reduces the risk of stomach ulcers, good for the respiratory system, regulates blood pressure, and can increase the activity of certain enzymes that fight cancer. 

 

Turmeric: Anti-inflammatory, purifies the blood, supports brain health for better memory, mood, and clarity of mind, reduces the risk of Alzheimer's, cancer, and heart disease. 

 

Ginger: Increases digestive fire, anti-nausea, reduces muscle pain and soreness, anti-inflammatory, increases blood flow to joints, lowers blood sugar, and can help with menstrual pain. 

Rosemary: Prevents aging of the brain, protects against macular degeneration, enhances memory, and cognitive function.

Sage: Can ease PMS, may lower bad LDL cholesterol, and supports brain health.
